New England still hasn't made the deal.

The Patriots have been searching for a true No. 1 wide receiver for what feels like forever, and this offseason, they finally made a move—sort of.

Romeo Doubs arrived in New England as the headline acquisition at wideout, the player tasked with replacing Stefon Diggs and becoming Drake Maye's go-to target. But that role might be short-lived, because the Patriots are still chasing a bigger fish: A.J. Brown.

Trade rumors linking the Patriots to the Eagles star have been swirling for weeks, with most insiders expecting a deal to materialize after June 1 for salary cap purposes. That's still a few weeks away, but the buzz is already impossible to ignore—even for the players already in the building.

Doubs met with the media Tuesday and was asked about the possibility of sharing a locker room with Brown. His response was measured but welcoming.

"I have a ton of respect for him," Doubs said. "He’s been a dude in this league for quite a long time. I understand that when he first got in the league, Vrabel was his coach. So again, I understand there are a lot of rumors going around. If he’s here, I’d love to have him here. And if he isn’t here, I’m still going to wish him the best because he’s one of the best guys in this league."

It's not every day a newly acquired player is asked about someone who hasn't even been traded yet. But that's the level of expectation surrounding this potential blockbuster. At this point, it feels more like a matter of when, not if, Brown lands in New England.

And Doubs seems perfectly fine with that. During his time in Green Bay, he was part of a deep receiver room where everyone had a defined role—a setup that could translate well to New England if Brown joins the mix. Adding a proven alpha like Brown would actually make life easier for everyone, drawing defensive attention and opening up opportunities across the board.

For a Patriots team that has struggled to find consistent playmakers on the outside, pairing Doubs with Brown would instantly transform the receiving corps from a question mark into a legitimate strength. And if Doubs' reaction is any indication, the locker room is ready for that upgrade.
