Could a Serie A reunion be on the cards for a former defensive standout? Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is reportedly eyeing a move to bring Bayern Munich's Kim Min-jae back to Italy, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The South Korean international, nicknamed the 'Korean Monster', is currently facing limited playing time under new Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, who favors the center-back pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah. This situation has opened the door for a potential exit, with Spalletti—who knows Kim's talents intimately—keen to link up with his former charge once more.
Kim's single season in Serie A with Napoli in 2022/23 was nothing short of spectacular. Tasked with replacing the iconic Kalidou Koulibaly, he not only filled the void but became a defensive titan, playing a pivotal role in Napoli's historic Scudetto triumph and earning the Serie A Defender of the Season award. His commanding performances showcased the kind of elite defensive stability that top clubs crave.
His subsequent €50 million move to Bayern Munich, however, hasn't yielded the expected starting role, prompting speculation about his future. With Juventus actively seeking defensive reinforcements after missing out on other targets like Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi, Kim has emerged as a potential solution, albeit an expensive one.
The major hurdles for the Bianconeri are financial. Bayern are said to be demanding a fee around €40 million for the 29-year-old, who also commands a substantial net salary of approximately €8 million per year. For Juventus, securing such a high-caliber defender would be a major statement of intent, reuniting a proven Serie A winner with the coach who helped him shine brightest.
