Eduardo Rodriguez came within two outs of his first major league complete game, Ryan Waldschmidt had his first three big league RBIs and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the hapless New York Mets 5-1 on Sunday. Rodriguez (4-0) took a no-hit bud into the sixth inning and allowed four hits in 8 1/3 innings, earning an standing ovation as he walked off the field following Mark Vientos' bloop single. Rodriguez struck out four and walked three.

Eduardo Rodriguez was on the verge of baseball immortality on Sunday, coming within just two outs of his first career complete game as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the hapless New York Mets 5-1 in Phoenix.

Rodriguez (4-0) was simply dominant, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finishing with four hits allowed over 8⅓ innings. The left-hander received a well-deserved standing ovation from the home crowd as he walked off the field after Mark Vientos' bloop single broke up his gem. He finished with four strikeouts and three walks, continuing a stellar start to his third season in Arizona—just one start after tossing seven scoreless innings against the Padres.

For the Mets, this was a brutal end to what had been a promising road trip. New York opened their nine-game journey at 5-2 but closed it with a thud, managing just four hits in the series finale—and only 12 total across the entire three-game set. The last-place Mets dropped to 15-25, committing three errors in the loss, including two throwing miscues from third baseman Andy Ibáñez that set up Ketel Marte's two-run triple in the sixth inning, extending Arizona's lead to 5-1.

Slugger Juan Soto continued his struggles, going 0-for-3 on Sunday and finishing the road trip just 4-for-32 with only two RBIs. Along with Bo Bichette, the duo combined to go 0-for-20 in the series against Arizona's pitching staff.

While Rodriguez stole the show on the mound, rookie Ryan Waldschmidt provided the offensive spark. After recording a pinch-hit single in his first big league at-bat on Friday and setting a Diamondbacks record for most putouts in a first big league start on Saturday, Waldschmidt delivered his first three RBIs on Sunday. He doubled to the gap in the second inning after Mets opener Huascar Brazobán (2-1) walked the first two batters, then added a bloop RBI single in the sixth.

Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks send right-hander Freddy Peralta (2-3, 3.12 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday to open a three-game series against Detroit, while the Mets will look to regroup as they return home.
