It's been a rough May for the Colorado Rockies, and fans won't love where the team has landed in the latest MLB power rankings.
The Rockies started the season on solid footing, with a strong pitching staff and offensive sparks from players like TJ Rumfield and Mickey Moniak. But May has been a different story. Colorado has stumbled to a 2-7 record this month, getting swept by the Atlanta Braves and losing series to both the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
The pitching staff has struggled during this stretch, leading to some lopsided scores. On top of that, the Rockies have struggled with situational hitting, leaving too many runners on base against the Mets and Phillies.
It's worth noting that the Rockies may have just run into some hot teams at the wrong time. The Braves have been scorching, while the Mets and Phillies are finally playing better baseball after slow starts.
Given the recent slide, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter dropped Colorado to No. 30 in his latest power rankings. "After a respectable 13-14 showing in April, the Rockies have stumbled to a 2-7 record to begin May while suffering their fourth straight series loss," Reuter wrote. He did offer one bright spot: "On a positive note, it looks like Chase Dollander is the real deal on the mound."
And that's a legitimate reason for hope. In his first full MLB season, Dollander has posted a 3-2 record with a 3.35 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 43 innings. That's the kind of performance that can anchor a rotation for years to come.
The Rockies will look to turn things around in upcoming series against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Arizona Diamondbacks. For fans who want to show their support through the ups and downs, repping Rockies gear is always a solid play—win or lose, the loyalty is what counts.
