ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — We know Lena’s Gennings Dunker will be a Pittsburgh Steeler this coming season, but will another local guy also be suiting up for the Steelers? Rockford native Dean Lowry most likely will be.At the moment he is technically a free agent. The two-year contract that he signed with the Steelers two years ago expired.Lowry missed all of the 2025 season when he tore an ACL during training camp. There were reports Monday that Lowry had agreed to a new contract with the Steelers for this year, but Tuesday ESPN’s Ian Rapport, and Houston Texans reporter and NFL reporter Aaron Wilson and others reported that Lowry hasn’t signed the contract.“Lowy will not be re-signing at this time”, according to Rapoport. “More time will be taken for him to return to playing shape. Lowry has received medical clearance, but he did not take a physical upon agreeing to a new Pittsburgh pact. Once that changes, his next Steelers deal should be finalized.”“Veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry, who agreed to a one-year deal with Steelers previously and is fully medically cleared, not signing today as he continues to work at getting in optimal football shape, per a league source,” reported Wilson. It is probably only a matter of time before Lowry signs the contract. Then, we’ll potentially see Lowry and Dunker going head-to-head on the line of scrimmage at the Steelers mini-camps and training camp.
