The Rockford IceHogs have kicked off their offseason with a significant change behind the bench, parting ways with assistant coach Rob Klinkhammer. The decision, announced Monday, marks the first major roster move for the AHL affiliate as they look ahead to the next campaign.
IceHogs general manager Mark Bernard expressed gratitude in a statement: "The IceHogs would like to thank Rob for his four years of coaching in Rockford. We wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future."
Klinkhammer, who joined the coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season, brought a wealth of experience to the role. His connection to the organization runs deep—during his NHL playing career, he suited up for the IceHogs for parts of three seasons between 2008 and 2012. On the ice, he also played for the Chicago Blackhawks and four other NHL clubs, showcasing his versatility as a forward.
Beyond the professional ranks, Klinkhammer represented Team Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics, helping the squad secure a bronze medal. His departure leaves a gap in the coaching lineup as the IceHogs begin to shape their staff for the 2025-26 season.
For fans gearing up for next season, this move signals a fresh start in Rockford—one that could bring new energy and strategies to the team. Stay tuned as the IceHogs continue to build their roster and coaching staff in the weeks ahead.
