The injury occurred during a Wednesday practice. While an MRI revealed no structural damage, head coach Ime Udoka noted the contusion is "in an awkward spot" just above the kneecap and remains "very tender," leaving Durant's status for Game 2 on Tuesday uncertain.

His absence further thins the star power in a series already impacted by injuries. The Lakers will also be shorthanded to start, missing Luka Doncic (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (strained oblique), setting the stage for a battle of depth and adjustment.

With Durant sidelined, Coach Udoka will turn to a new-look starting lineup featuring Amen Thompson, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., rookie Reed Sheppard, and Josh Okogie. The Rockets maintained a solid +5.4 net rating with Durant off the floor this season, but this specific five-man unit has limited experience together, posting a -9.9 net rating in just 49 shared minutes.
