The Rock Valley College Golden Eagles are packing their bags for a long road trip south, and that's great news for the program. This week, the team heads to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to compete in the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series—and they're bringing some serious momentum with them.

Tuesday's bracket reveal brought exciting news: RVC earned the No. 4 overall seed, the highest seed the program has ever received since moving up to Division II. The Golden Eagles are one of 20 teams in the tournament, and this seeding reflects just how dominant they've been this season.

"We were definitely hoping top four," said catcher Sidney Spindel. "We've been told from the get-go that the top four get good brackets, so knowing that we're top four and seeing the work that this team has put in is worth it."

McKenzie Culvey, a utility player and Belvidere North graduate, echoed that sentiment. "It definitely feels great to have that respect. It just makes you want to work all that harder."

Head coach Darin Monroe keeps the seed in perspective, knowing that rankings only matter so much once the games begin. "At the end of the day, whether you're seed number one or seed number 20, you're in the dance, and you've got an opportunity to go win it."

Rock Valley's resume certainly backs up that top-four billing. The Golden Eagles boast a staggering 57-3 record and have won 32 consecutive games. That kind of streak doesn't happen by accident—it's the product of depth, discipline, and a tough schedule that prepared them for moments like this.

Monroe points to their early-season road trip as a turning point. "There's no question in my mind that our spring break trip where we played nothing but Division I junior colleges in the panhandle and in Georgia definitely benefited our resume. We won multiple nationally ranked games, including defeating the defending Division I national champion Northwest Florida State."

RVC has a rich softball tradition, having won eight national championships at the Division III level before moving up to D2 in the 2022-23 school year. This marks their third appearance in the D2 World Series, and this year's squad might just be their most complete yet.

"If you're scouting Rock Valley, you've got to scout us in a lot of different areas," Monroe said. "We are not driven by one player in a lineup. We are not driven by one pitcher in a pitching rotation. We are a team."

With a balanced attack, a historic winning streak, and a program built for big moments, the Golden Eagles are ready to make some noise in South Carolina. Whether you're a fan, a player, or just love a good underdog story with championship pedigree, this is a team worth watching.
