Things aren't getting easier in Houston.

The Houston Astros are staring into the abyss. After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016 last season, fans hoped for a strong rebound—but the wheels have come off in 2026.

The pitching staff is in shambles. Hunter Brown, Cristian Javier, and Tatsuya Imai are all on the injured list, and Lance McCullers Jr. just exited a start with a broken fingernail. The injuries aren't confined to the mound either: Carlos Correa is out for the season with a torn ankle tendon, and Jeremy Peña has played just 10 games due to a broken finger.

The result? A brutal stretch that saw the Astros lose series to both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds, managing just one win in each. On Sunday, they were shut out by the Reds—their second blanking in recent days—and have now scored three runs or fewer in six of their last seven games.

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter dropped Houston to No. 28 in his latest power rankings, noting, "The Astros sit at the bottom of the ERA leaderboard with a 5.57 mark—more than half a run higher than the next worst team."

The schedule offers no mercy. This week, the Astros face a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners before taking on the Texas Rangers, who are riding high after a big weekend series win over the Chicago Cubs.

For Houston, rock bottom is near—but a turnaround could spark a dramatic rise. For now, fans are left hoping the team can find its footing before it's too late.
