Cristian Torres is getting the chance to ride in his first Kentucky Derby after Kenny McPeek-trained Right to Party was scratched, with Doug O’Neill’s Robusta drawing into the field.

In a dramatic twist ahead of the Kentucky Derby, jockey Cristian Torres has secured his first-ever ride in the "Run for the Roses" after a late scratch reshuffled the field. The Kenny McPeek-trained Right to Party was withdrawn, paving the way for Doug O’Neill’s Robusta to draw in from the also-eligible list.

Torres, who seemed destined to miss the race after his previous mount, Silent Tactic, was scratched due to a foot injury, has now landed a golden opportunity. Trainer Mark Casse called the decision to scratch Silent Tactic "an easy call" for the horse's well-being, but admitted he felt for Torres. However, when Robusta gained entry, O’Neill tabbed Torres for the ride—Emisael Jaramillo, the original jockey, was already committed to race at Santa Anita Park in California.

Robusta now stands as the final horse eligible for the opening leg of the Triple Crown, meaning any further scratches would shrink the 20-horse field. The shake-up doesn’t stop there: Brad Cox also scratched Fulleffort after an X-ray revealed a chip and fluid in the colt’s left hind ankle, adding to the pre-race drama.

For fans and fashion alike, this year’s Derby is shaping up to be one of unpredictability and raw emotion—a perfect backdrop for celebrating the sport’s timeless style.
