Andy Robertson thinks the referee should have stopped play before Daniel Munoz scored in bizarre circumstances for Crystal Palace against Liverpool on Saturday.
The Reds were cruising towards victory following goals from Alexander Isak and Robertson in the first half at Anfield.
But the Eagles pulled one back when Munoz chipped the ball into an empty net after Freddie Woodman went down injured. The goalkeeper clutched his knee after it hit the ground while saving Ismaila Sarr’s effort.
It didn’t affect the end result as Florian Wirtz went on to score and secure a 3-1 win for the hosts.
“We were in control, then we go and conceded a bit of a strange goal,” Robertson told BBC Match of the Day. “You hope the right result comes and we are the ones who go and score the next one and the three points stay with us.”
The Scotland international added: “I don’t think he looks up. Woody went down, tried to get back up and went down again. Munoz is looking down trying to concentrate on kicking the ball.
“My opinion is the ref should stop the game but goalkeepers are protected too much by the refs. Thankfully, we were the ones who scored the next and not them.”
It was the only blip on an otherwise great day for Woodman, who was making his full Liverpool debut while both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili are out injured.
“I thought he was outstanding,” Robertson added. “The lads and coaching staff had so much faith in him because we see him every day. I’m just gutted he didn’t get the clean sheet.”
