I teased it out a little bit in last week’s column, but here’s your one-month (or so) warning that the biggest night in area sports is coming soon. Mark your calendars, sports fans—the biggest night in area athletics is almost here! After teasing it in last week's column, we're officially giving you the one-month heads-up: the Ninth Annual THB Sports Awards will light up Reardon Auditorium on the campus of Anderson University on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Doors swing open at 6 p.m., with the main event kicking off at 7 p.m. sharp. But take note—this year's show is moving from its usual Tuesday slot to a Thursday, thanks to some internal scheduling shifts. Don't let that catch you off guard!

The best part? Admission is completely free, and everyone is welcome. Whether you're a die-hard fan, a proud parent, or just love celebrating local talent, come out and cheer on the athletes and teams you've followed all season. It's our way of honoring the best of the best in the area.

Anderson University has been an incredible host over the years, and Reardon Auditorium provides a stunning backdrop for this celebration of sports excellence. Plus, we're thrilled to announce that Doug Anderson will return as emcee for his second year—bringing energy and charisma to the stage.

Get ready for the red carpet treatment! Every attendee can walk the carpet, pose for photos, and relive the memories later on our website. It's your night to shine alongside the stars.

So, what's on the lineup? We'll crown the Team of the Year and Coach of the Year, plus honor the Girls and Boys Athletes of the Year. The Scholars, Mental Attitude, Comeback, and Breakout Awards will recognize resilience and achievement. The Heart of Sports Award will celebrate a key support staff member, and for the third time, we'll present the Jimmy Erskine Award—a tribute to lasting impact.

The evening opens with the 19th Annual Johnny Wilson Awards, honoring the area's top three-sport athletes. And we'll close with the Program of the Year award, given to the athletic department that racked up the most points through county tournaments and postseason play during the 2025-26 school year.

Nomination forms have already gone out to all 11 area athletic directors, and they—along with their coaches—will submit their picks over the next few weeks. That kicks off the always-tough, sometimes-nearly-impossible process of choosing finalists and winners. Trust us, it's a challenge we take seriously!

Finalists will be announced on Sunday, June 7, via social media, and we'll reach out directly to each one. A special Awards Show preview section will hit print on Wednesday, June 24, with full winner stories appearing the day after the show in The Herald Bulletin. Can't make it in person? No worries—the entire show will be streamed live on the Herald Bulletin's Facebook page.

With nominations already pouring in, I can tell you this year's selections will be no easier than before. But that's what makes it so exciting. It's a night of fun, a celebration of hard work, and the perfect way to wrap up the local sports season. See you there!
