The Peoria Rivermen are just one win away from hoisting the President's Cup—and they're making it look easy. On Friday night at Carver Arena, the Rivermen powered past the Evansville Thunderbolts with a commanding 5-1 victory in Game 2 of the SPHL Finals, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

From the opening puck drop, Peoria set the tone. Garrett Devine wasted no time, lighting the lamp just 20 seconds into the game to give the home crowd an early jolt. But Evansville answered back, knotting the score at 1-1 before the first intermission.

The Rivermen regained control in the second period, and it was Michael McChesney who provided the spark. His goal at 2:45 broke the tie and put Peoria ahead for good. Moments later, Braydon Barker buried a goal off a slick feed from Connor Szmul, stretching the lead to 3-1 after two periods. The Rivermen defense, anchored by goaltender Nick Latinovich, was nearly impenetrable—Latinovich stopped 23 of 24 shots, and the team has surrendered just two goals in the entire series.

Kylar Fenton added an empty-net goal at 18:03 of the third period, and McChesney sealed the win with his second of the night—another empty-netter with just 22 seconds left on the clock. McChesney's two-goal performance highlighted a balanced attack that kept Evansville on its heels all night.

With Game 3 set for Wednesday in Evansville, the Rivermen are on the brink of capturing their third SPHL championship in five years. For a team that has built a reputation for postseason dominance, this series is shaping up to be another chapter in their winning legacy. Fans wearing Rivermen gear will be watching closely as Peoria looks to close it out on the road.
