The 2026 high school softball season is heating up as state playoffs and championships sweep across the nation. With the finish line in sight, the latest Rivals High School Softball Top 25 rankings—released May 11—bring fresh excitement to the diamond.
For the fifth straight week, Texas’ Melissa Cardinals reign supreme at No. 1. With a stellar 31-2 record, the Cardinals have bounced back from two rare losses—a minor hiccup for a program that had lost just once in its previous 50 games. Leading the charge is Class of 2027 right-handed pitcher Eloisa Maes (Arizona commit), who boasts a 28-2 record and 185 strikeouts this season. At the plate, Florida Gator commit Kennedy Bradley is on fire, smashing 20 home runs and driving in 62 runs through 33 games. The Cardinals recently blanked Midlothian 12-0 and now face a three-game series against Walnut Grove.
Hot on their heels is Barbers Hill (TX), holding strong at No. 2 with a 36-3 record. The Eagles remain a perennial national powerhouse, featuring a roster packed with future college talent. Junior catcher Isabelle Lawrence (North Carolina commit) anchors the lineup. Barbers Hill last captured a state title in 2021, but with the way they’re playing, a return to glory feels inevitable. In their last 20 games, the Eagles have outscored opponents an astounding 224-4—allowing just four runs total over that stretch.
Lake Creek (TX) rounds out the top three, keeping the Lone Star State dominance alive. Could we see a Melissa vs. Barbers Hill showdown for the UIL Class 5A Division I state championship? It’s a tantalizing possibility.
This week’s rankings also welcome a new contender. One fresh team cracked the top 25, adding even more depth to an already competitive field. As the season winds down, every game counts, and these squads are proving why they belong on the national stage.
