The landscape of high school girls flag football is shifting dramatically, and the latest national rankings reflect a season of historic firsts and powerhouse performances. With participation soaring to nearly 69,000 athletes nationwide in the 2024-25 school year—according to NFHS Network data—the sport is rapidly cementing itself as a mainstream varsity championship. More than a dozen states have officially sanctioned it, while others are running pilot programs or gearing up to join the movement.

For the first time all season, we have a new No. 1 team. The Alonso Ravens, previously undefeated, were stunned by Lennard in the FHSAA Class 4A, Region 2 final with a 13-7 upset. Stepping into the top spot is California’s JSerra Catholic, which wrapped up its season with a flawless 28-0 record. The Lions secured the CIF Southern Section Division I championship with a thrilling 25-20 win over Orange Lutheran, powered by a unique two-quarterback system. Freshman Kate Meier (3,729 yards, 58 touchdowns) and sophomore Ava Van Heerde (3,460 yards, 44 touchdowns) led the charge, and with such a young roster, this team is poised for continued dominance next season.

Climbing into the Top 5 is Florida’s Park Vista Cobras, now ranked No. 3 after a commanding 18-0 victory over Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The Cobras are set to face Tocoi Creek in the Class 4A state semifinals in Tampa this week, and their momentum is undeniable.

Also making waves is Orange Lutheran, which finished 24-3 and pushed JSerra Catholic to the limit in that Division I final. The Lancers feature junior quarterback Makena Cook, who made history as the first signal-caller ever to receive a Division I, Power 4 offer. Under head coach Kristin Sherman, this team remains a serious contender for the national conversation.

As the sport continues its explosive growth, these rankings showcase the depth of talent and competition shaping the future of girls flag football. Whether you’re tracking rising stars or gearing up for playoff action, this season is one for the books.
