Ridgeview Global Studies made a powerful statement at the 2026 FHSAA Class 1A Boys Weightlifting State Championships, sending three lifters to the state meet and bringing home a standout podium finish. For first-time state competitor Micah Davis, the experience was nothing short of electric.

Competing in the 169-pound Olympic category at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Davis stepped onto the platform with nerves and excitement in equal measure. He knew the day would come down to just six lifts—three in the snatch and three in the clean and jerk—and he was determined to stay locked in. "I didn't want to focus on numbers or worry about what anyone else was doing," Davis said. "I just wanted to trust my training and walk away proud."

That mindset paid off. Davis hit five of his six lifts, finishing third overall with a combined total of 430 pounds. While he didn't set new personal records—having already snatched 195 pounds at regionals and clean and jerked 235 during the regular season—he adapted on the fly and delivered when it mattered most.

"Before the meet, I honestly thought top six might be a stretch," Davis admitted. "I just wanted to lift for myself and do my best. When I found out I got third, I was ecstatic. It showed me that all the hard work really paid off. Seeing how proud my family, coaches, and teammates were meant everything to me."

For a first-time state qualifier, a bronze medal finish is a remarkable achievement—and a sign of even bigger things ahead for Ridgeview's weightlifting program. Whether you're chasing a personal best or a state title, it's proof that dedication and focus can turn nerves into a podium moment.
