The Gonzaga Bulldogs have added some serious backcourt help this offseason, landing a commitment from Rider Broncs guard Emmy Roach. The 6-foot sophomore from Littlehampton, South Australia, announced her move via Instagram, marking the first transfer portal addition for Lisa Fortier's program this year.
Roach brings a steady, efficient game to Spokane. During her two seasons in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, she averaged 6.6 points on 40.6% shooting from the field, 34.3% from three-point range, and a solid 70.8% from the free-throw line. Beyond scoring, she chipped in 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 1.0 assists per game—a stat line that shows she can impact the game on both ends of the floor.
But here's what really matters for the Zags: Roach protects the basketball. She averaged just 1.2 turnovers across 19.2 minutes per game over her first 56 collegiate games. That's a huge plus for a Gonzaga team that struggled mightily with ball security last season, turning it over 17.3 times per contest—tied for No. 250 in the nation. In a sport where every possession counts, Roach's composure will be a welcome addition.
Her arrival helps fill the gaps left by Paige Lofing, who transferred to Montana in the Big Sky Conference, and Ines Bettencourt, who graduated. With Roach in the fold, Gonzaga now has 12 of its 15 available roster and scholarship spots filled for the 2026-27 campaign. The team's 2026 high school recruiting class currently features just one player: 6-1 forward Abby Lusk from Pocatello, Idaho.
For a program looking to bounce back and make noise in the West Coast Conference, Roach's steady hand and versatile skill set could be exactly what the doctor ordered. Keep an eye on this addition as the offseason continues—it might be the first, but it likely won't be the last.
