At Girona FC, we celebrate the return of Ricard Artero to the first team's squad. The 23-year-old midfielder is back on the list after a long period affected by injuries, although he has been training regularly with the group since the beginning of this year.
Artero had not been included in a first-team squad since the 2022-23 season. His last official match was on May 23, 2023, against Celta, and since then, he has endured a true ordeal marked by injuries.
Born in La Bisbal d’Empordà, Ricard Artero was one of the great promises of Girona's youth football. His effort, hard work, and quality led him to debut with the first team on November 4, 2021, in the Second Division, in a match against Alcorcón under the management of Míchel Sánchez. Later, in February 2023, he made his debut in the First Division against Almería.
Although injuries have not allowed him to maintain continuity, his mental strength and positive attitude have been constant throughout the recovery process.
So far, Artero has played 24 official matches with the first team: 11 in the Second Division, seven in the First Division, five in the Copa del Rey, and one in the promotion play-offs. His return to the squad is excellent news for the coaching staff, the locker room, and the fans, who are eager to see him compete on the pitch again.
Míchel, in particular, highlighted the importance of Artero's return to the squad: "He has made it into the squad, and it’s great news. He truly deserves it. He is a player in whom both the club and I have always had high hopes. He has a very high technical level, he has the game in his mind, and his return is very important for him and also for us." Míchel also emphasized the human aspect of the moment: "He is a player who has suffered a lot over the last two or three years, and we need to give him this joy that he deserves. We are very happy for him and also for the team."
