Paying a visit to an old friend.

There's something special about facing an old friend across the diamond—and Friday night in Philadelphia, Ranger Suárez reminded everyone why he's so tough to forget.

The Phillies welcomed their former left-hander back to Citizens Bank Park, but there were no warm reunions at the plate. Suárez was locked in from the first pitch, striking out Kyle Schwarber on a low curveball and coaxing a lineout from Bryce Harper in a scoreless first inning. He didn't stop there, retiring the first nine batters he faced, half of them via strikeout. The cruelest moment came when he froze former batterymate J.T. Realmuto on a low curve—Realmuto tried to check his swing but couldn't hold back, a painful reminder of the chemistry they once shared.

On the other side, Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo matched Suárez early, but blinked first in the third. A softly hit double from Carlos Narváez that slipped past a sliding Felix Reyes, followed by a sacrifice bunt, put a runner on third. But Luzardo—dubbed the Lizard King by Phillies faithful—bore down and struck out the next two batters to escape unscathed.

The Phillies finally broke through against Suárez in the fifth. Alec Bohm ripped a cutter into the left-center gap for the team's first hit, and Realmuto followed with a single to right. After Felix Reyes singled to load the bases, it looked like Philadelphia might finally crack the code. But Suárez, showing the poise that made him a fan favorite, worked out of the jam without allowing a run.

The score remained deadlocked until the Phillies pushed across three runs late, securing a 3-1 victory. For one night, the old friend got the best of his former team early—but baseball, like any good rivalry, always has a second act.
