For the injured Detroit Tigers, reinforcements are starting to trickle in.

The Detroit Tigers are finally seeing light at the end of the injury tunnel, and it's shining brightest on starting pitcher Casey Mize. After a 15-day stint on the injured list due to a right adductor strain, Mize is set to return to the mound this Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager A.J. Hinch made the announcement ahead of Friday's game, signaling a much-needed boost for a team that's been battling through a tough stretch.

What's remarkable about Mize's comeback is that he won't require a rehab assignment. Despite being sidelined since April 29, the right-hander has kept his arm in game-ready shape through a series of bullpen sessions and live batting practice in Lakeland. Hinch expressed confidence in this approach, noting that Mize's pitching volume never took a hit during the layoff.

"The big thing for us was just keeping his volume intact," Hinch explained. "He's been able to continue to throw, which is a great sign. There's always this concern when there's a layoff, and that layoff is minimum. There's an argument, is the live BP just like a rehab assignment because you can keep the volume, or does somebody need to get into a competitive environment? Casey responded well to the multiple bullpens and the live BP that he did down in Lakeland."

With Mize's absence clocking in at just 16 days—barely over the minimum—Hinch feels the timing is perfect to slot him back into the rotation. The only adjustment? A slightly reduced pitch count to account for the jump in intensity. "We can deal with that in the sixth inning tomorrow and not have any fear that the volume affects him, or he's not ready for that type of assignment," Hinch added.

For Tigers fans, this is more than just a roster move—it's a sign that reinforcements are finally arriving. Mize's return headlines a wave of positive injury updates, and with the team pushing through a challenging season, having their young ace back on the bump could be the spark they need. A corresponding roster move will be announced before Saturday's game, but for now, the focus is on getting Mize back in Tigers gear and ready to compete.
