Just over three months into his tenure as Eintracht Frankfurt head coach, Albert Riera's time at the Bundesliga club appears to be drawing to a close. The 44-year-old, who took over from Dino Toppmöller in January, is reportedly facing the sack at the end of the season—and the rumor mill is already churning with potential successors.
According to German tabloid Bild, the search for a new coach is well underway, with several high-profile names emerging as frontrunners. Among them are Kjetil Knutsen and Jacob Neestrup, both of whom were linked with the job back in January when Toppmöller was dismissed. Knutsen, the mastermind behind Bodø/Glimt's meteoric rise in Norwegian football, is under contract until 2029, while Neestrup is currently available after leaving FC Copenhagen at the end of March.
The list of candidates also includes Matthias Jaissle, currently at Al Ahli, and Domenico Tedesco, who is without a club after his recent stint at Fenerbahçe. Meanwhile, fan favorites Adi Hütter and Oliver Glasner are considered unlikely to return, and a move for Roger Schmidt—now working as global sports director for the Japanese J.League—seems improbable.
Rounding out the potential replacements are outsider candidates Mike Tullberg (FC Midtjylland), Tobias Strobl (SC Verl), Tonda Eckert (Southampton), and Danny Röhl (Rangers). As Eintracht Frankfurt looks to stabilize their ship, the next few weeks will be crucial in determining who will lead the club into the new season.
