The Baltimore Ravens are making another strategic move to bolster their quarterback depth, with reports indicating they plan to sign quarterback Skylar Thompson to their 90-man roster. This news, first reported by NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, comes as the team looks to solidify its options under center heading into the offseason.
Ravens head coach Jesse Minter recently noted during the team's rookie minicamp that there's room for "anywhere from three to five" quarterbacks on the offseason roster. If Thompson signs, he would become the fifth signal-caller in Baltimore's quarterback room. The Ravens already have superstar Lamar Jackson and veteran Snoop Huntley returning from last season, while the team also added undrafted free agents Joe Fagnano and Diego Pavia just last week.
Thompson, a 2022 seventh-round draft pick, spent most of last season on the Pittsburgh Steelers' injured reserve list. Prior to that, he spent his first three NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he made four starts and appeared in 11 total games. During his time in Miami, Thompson completed 99 of 183 passes for 941 yards, throwing two touchdowns and five interceptions.
This signing reflects the Ravens' commitment to building depth at the quarterback position—a smart approach for any team with championship aspirations. Whether Thompson can carve out a role in Baltimore's offense or serve as valuable insurance behind Jackson remains to be seen, but it's clear the Ravens are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare for the upcoming season.
