The Florida Panthers could be facing a significant shake-up in their front office. According to a recent report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast, the team is at risk of losing two key executives: director of player personnel Bryan McCabe and director of hockey operations Braden Birch.

The potential poaching comes from an unexpected source—former Panthers assistant general manager Sunny Mehta, who was recently hired as the New Jersey Devils' new GM. Mehta is reportedly looking to bring familiar faces into his new front office, and McCabe and Birch are high on his list.

McCabe has been a cornerstone of the Panthers organization since 2012, starting as a development coach before moving into his current role. During his tenure, the 50-year-old has helped build a roster that won two Stanley Cups, proving his eye for talent and player development. His reputation is so strong that even the Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly interested in reuniting with him—McCabe spent seven seasons playing for Toronto alongside new senior executive advisor Mats Sundin.

One of McCabe's biggest success stories? Panthers defenseman Mackenzie Weegar, who has publicly credited McCabe for helping him develop into the star player he is today. "Bryan McCabe has a really good reputation for player development," Friedman noted on his podcast.

But McCabe isn't the only one on the move. Braden Birch, the Panthers' director of hockey operations since 2017, is also a target for Mehta's Devils. Birch has been with the team since 2016 and has played a crucial role in their back-to-back championship runs.

For Panthers fans, this is a worrying trend. Losing two key front office members—especially to a division rival—could disrupt the team's long-term planning. But as the NHL's offseason heats up, front office moves are becoming just as competitive as the action on the ice.
