Cincinnati could soon be the epicenter of the NFL world, as reports suggest the Queen City has the "inside track" to host the 2029 NFL Draft. According to the Sports Business Journal, citing multiple sources, the league is eyeing Minneapolis-St. Paul as the frontrunner for the 2028 draft, while Cincinnati appears poised to take the spotlight the following year.

The NFL events committee is set to meet next week to discuss potential host sites, with a final vote expected at the owners' meeting on May 19-20 in Orlando. Sources indicate that the league may award two drafts simultaneously or in quick succession, a move that aligns with Commissioner Roger Goodell's recent comments. On ESPN's "Pat McAfee Show," Goodell noted that the draft's massive scale means the NFL "will probably have to start allocating the drafts a little further in advance" to accommodate planning.

The draft has evolved into a major fan event, drawing hundreds of thousands to a free, festival-like atmosphere. Pittsburgh set a new attendance record with 805,000 fans for the 2025 draft, held near the Steelers' Acrisure Stadium. Past drafts have been staged in downtown areas, including Detroit (2024) and Kansas City (2023), with Green Bay set to host in 2025 and Washington, D.C., following in 2026.

For Cincinnati, the potential hosting location remains unclear, but the Banks—the vibrant district between Paycor Stadium and Great American Ball Park—was designed with major events like this in mind. Originally, the city explored bids for the 2027 and 2028 drafts but shifted focus to 2029 after assessing logistics and competition.

Goodell also revealed that 10 teams sent representatives to the Pittsburgh draft to study the event and develop their own hosting visions.
