The Indianapolis Colts' quarterback situation just got a little more interesting. According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, Anthony Richardson has reported for voluntary offseason workouts—a notable development given his ongoing trade request.

When the Colts kicked off their offseason program on April 21, Richardson was notably absent. The 23-year-old signal-caller had requested a trade back in late February, leaving fans and analysts wondering about his future in Indianapolis. Colts GM Chris Ballard previously explained that Richardson had been training in Jacksonville, maintaining regular contact with his trainer and agent.

Here's the thing about these workouts: they're completely voluntary. The first mandatory event on the Colts' calendar is minicamp, scheduled for June 9-11. So Richardson's decision to show up now, after staying home for the first two weeks, speaks volumes about the current stalemate.

With no trade partner emerging and no indication the Colts plan to release him, Richardson is back—at least for the time being. The team is currently in Phase II of their offseason program, which allows on-field workouts but prohibits contact or team periods.

The trade market for Richardson has been, in the words of ESPN's Adam Schefter, "soft." That reality became crystal clear when no deal materialized before or during the NFL draft. Ballard is playing his cards close to the vest, determined to secure fair value for a player who was the fourth overall pick in 2023 and still has tremendous upside at just 23 years old.

"Well, nothing yet," Ballard told Rich Eisen after the draft. "You know, he's still a Colt as of right now. We'll continue to work through that, but he's still an Indianapolis Colt. We've also got Riley Leonard on the roster, who did well last year. So, we'll work through that as we go along."

As for where Richardson might want to land? NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reports that the young quarterback is ideally seeking a team within the "McVay-Shanahan-LaFleur coaching tree"—a system known for quarterback-friendly schemes. For now, though, he's back in the Colts' building, wearing the horseshoe and waiting to see what happens next.
