Reiss Nelson's loan spell at Brentford has been a frustrating tale of fleeting moments and untimely setbacks. The winger's 45-minute appearance off the bench in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Everton was a stark reminder of what's been missing this season. That single half of football nearly matched the total of 55 Premier League minutes he had accumulated in the first seven months of his loan.

While Nelson has shown flashes of his talent in cup competitions—scoring in a penalty shootout and providing a goal and an assist—his league involvement has been minimal. Injuries have been a cruel constant, forcing him to miss 12 matches across all competitions and halting any momentum he might have built with his cup performances.

The core issue remains his playing time. When fit, he has been an option off the bench more often than not, starting only three of the 23 matches he was available for. This lack of consistent minutes raises questions about the loan's effectiveness for his development. For context, he has played just 321 minutes for Brentford this campaign, which is half the 641 minutes he managed in his last full season with Arsenal.

In fact, several of Arsenal's own academy prospects have seen more first-team action this season than Nelson has at his loan club. With only six games remaining for Brentford, the recent substitution might signal a late push for involvement, but it underscores a season that has largely failed to provide the regular football he sought.
