The Travelers Championship just got a major boost in star power. Reigning U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun and eight-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Cantlay have officially committed to the tournament, set to take place June 25-28.
Spaun, currently ranked No. 9 in the Official World Golf Rankings, is riding the momentum of a career-defining season. Last year, he captured his first major title with a dramatic 64-foot putt on the 18th hole at Oakmont to clinch the U.S. Open—a moment that instantly etched his name into golf history. The 35-year-old also earned a coveted spot on the Ryder Cup team and added a victory at the Valero Texas Open last month, bringing his total to three career PGA Tour wins.
Joining him is Patrick Cantlay, a seasoned competitor at 34 years old with eight tour victories under his belt. Cantlay has a special history with the Travelers Championship, having twice finished in the top five at the event. His connection to the tournament runs deep—back in 2011, as an amateur, he fired a stunning second-round 60, the lowest score ever recorded by an amateur on the PGA Tour. Currently ranked No. 33 in the world, Cantlay is eager to add another strong performance to his Travelers legacy.
Travelers Executive Vice President Andy Bessette couldn't hide his excitement about the commitments. "Two more additions from great players who have a special connection to the Travelers Championship and have become good friends of mine," Bessette said. He highlighted Spaun's charitable side, recalling how the champion won the closest-to-the-pin contest at The Umbrella a few years ago, leading to a $10,000 donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. "Let's see what they can do this year," Bessette added.
With Spaun's red-hot form and Cantlay's proven track record at the event, fans are in for a thrilling week in June. For golf enthusiasts looking to gear up like the pros, now's the perfect time to stock up on performance polos, precision gloves, and stylish headwear—because you never know when your next 64-foot putt might happen.
