The Boston Red Sox have been struggling a ton this season. Their 9-14 record, the worst in the AL East and one of only seven teams in baseball still in the single-digit win column, is a clear sign of how bad things are going.

But to get to such a low point, there have to be some on-field reasons for why the team has struggled so much this season. And in the case of the Red Sox, there is one statistic that does a good job highlighting how bad things are going this season: home runs.

As ESPN's Jorge Castillo highlighted, the Red Sox have a very concerning home run number of just 13 through the beginning of the season. They're struggling a ton to hit homers, and it's a huge problem for this year's team.

"One potential area of concern for the Red Sox entering the season was their power after trading Rafael Devers away last May and losing Alex Bregman in free agency this winter," Castillo writes. "So far, that concern is very real."

Boston's offense has struggled a ton this season, and the team's league-low 13 homers to begin the season are a major area of concern.

Willson Contreras leads the team with four homers, Wilyer Abreu has three, and Trevor Story has two. Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran, Marcelo Mayer, and Ceddane Rafaela all have one each for an MLB-worst 13 homers on the season.

Compared to the beginning of the 2025 season, the Red Sox have lost significant power in their lineup with Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers both now on new teams.

The struggles early this season aren't solely due to the offense, but a lot of blame can be put on the early struggles from the lineup.

The lack of power is a huge reason for the overall struggles this season, and the league-low 13-homer total through 23 games is a big reason why the team is off to such a poor start.

This home-run problem is one that the Red Sox need to resolve soon. Otherwise, they're going to miss the postseason thanks to a lackluster offense that cannot hit the long ball.
