As the NCAA transfer portal closed on Monday, the Indiana State men's basketball team received two new commitments.
Maguire Mitchell — a Zionsville, Indiana native and 6-foot, 5-inch Indiana University-Indianapolis transfer — announced on his Instagram account Sunday that he'd be transferring to ISU ahead of next season.
During his freshman season at IU Indy, Mitchell averaged 11.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
The other commit, Jackson Cooper hails from Portland, Oregon and will join the Sycamores as a senior. Through his first three seasons at NAIA school Oregon Institute of Technology, Cooper averaged 11 points per game, with a high of 17.7 ppg this last season. In addition, Cooper averaged 7.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game last season.
The other previous commitment to ISU came from EJ McQuillan, who also is joining the Sycamores from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics level, from LSU Alexandria. In three seasons at LSU Alexandria, McQuillan averaged 13.3 points per game with a high of 19.4 this last season in his junior year. In addition to the 19.4 ppg, McQuillan averaged four rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this past season.
The only returning player from last season's ISU team is Gig Harbor, Washington native Martin Kaupanger who redshirted last season. Everyone else who didn't graduate entered the transfer portal including Zyair Greene, Cooper Bean, Hunter Harding, Caden Huttenlocker, Bruno Alocen, Sivert Wærstad Nordheim, Jayan Walker, Jo Van Buggenhout, Derek Vorst and Enel St. Bernard.
St. Bernard transferred to Conference USA school, Sam Houston State this last week. No other Sycamore players made announcements concerning future destinations.
