Michigan Football is making waves on the recruiting trail, and the latest move involves a familiar name. The Wolverines have extended a scholarship offer to 2028 four-star offensive lineman Mataio Fano, the younger brother of former Utah standout and projected future NFL first-round draft pick, Spencer Fano.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, the Orem, Utah native is already ranked as the No. 58 overall player in his class. While the offer is new, Michigan's pursuit isn't. The coaching staff, including offensive line coach Jim Harding, has been building a relationship with Fano for months, a connection that dates back to their time at Utah where Harding coached his older brother into a top prospect. Mataio Fano also holds offers from a host of other major programs, including Utah, UCLA, BYU, and Colorado.

In other recruiting news, Michigan is also making a strong push for 2027 three-star offensive lineman Tye Kennedy. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound tackle from Arizona comes from a strong football lineage; his father, Lincoln, was a standout on the Washington Huskies' offensive line in the 1990s, and his brother played at USC.

Despite his West Coast roots and family ties, Kennedy has shown significant interest in the Wolverines, especially after connecting with Coach Harding. "I've had a relationship with coach Harding ever since he was at Utah, but it got stronger when he went to Michigan," Kennedy told The Michigan Insider. "I am interested. The history with Michigan and also the education."

His interest is more than just talk—Kennedy has already scheduled an official visit to Ann Arbor, signaling that Michigan is a serious contender in his recruitment. It's clear Coach Harding and the new staff are leveraging their connections and reputation to attract top-tier talent, building the foundation for Michigan's offensive line of the future.
