Recruiting season is heating up, and Michigan Football is making bold moves to strengthen its future roster. The Wolverines are setting their sights on flipping a top-100 prospect currently committed to a Big 12 program—a strategy that’s already paid off with the recent flip of four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati. Let’s dive into today’s Recruiting Roundup and break down the key targets on Michigan’s radar.

First up is Jhadyn Nelson, a four-star linebacker from Houston, Texas, who stands at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. Ranked as the No. 8 linebacker in the 2027 class, Nelson has been committed to Texas Tech since March, but the Wolverines aren’t backing down. Michigan linebackers coach Alex Whittingham and the staff recently visited Nelson at his high school to reaffirm their interest. Speaking with The Michigan Insider, Nelson shared, “Michigan was at my school last week. They wanted to see if I was serious about them, and they said they’d crank up the recruitment. I’m really looking forward to it.” With official visits already lined up for Houston and Texas, Nelson hinted at a possible trip to Ann Arbor, saying, “I do hope to visit them.” Auburn and Miami are also in the mix, making this a competitive battle for the elite defender.

But Nelson isn’t the only linebacker catching Michigan’s eye. The Wolverines are also heavily pursuing Roman Igwebuike, a four-star prospect from Chicago’s Mount Carmel High School. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Igwebuike is a top-15 linebacker nationally and a teammate of four-star wide receiver target Quentin Burrell. After meeting with Michigan staff at his school this spring, Igwebuike told On3 that the coaching staff “was welcoming to me and my family,” and he appreciated the “family-like” atmosphere. He visited Ann Arbor in March and is now planning to set up an official visit, saying, “Things have been good since then. I plan on setting up an OV to get back down there, and then we’ll see where it goes from there.” With official visits already scheduled to Notre Dame and Clemson, Michigan is working hard to secure a spot on his list.

For Michigan fans, these developments signal a relentless push to build a championship-caliber defense. Whether it’s flipping a Big 12 commit or winning over a Midwest standout, the Wolverines are making their presence felt on the recruiting trail. Stay tuned for more updates as flip season approaches!
