Ohio State is busy on the recruiting trail this time of year with spring football over. The Buckeyes are after an elite defender, but they're going to have to win him over the Oregon Ducks.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are making serious moves on the recruiting trail, and they've set their sights on one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the 2027 class. With spring football wrapped up and summer workouts on the horizon, the Buckeyes are locked in a heated battle with a Big Ten rival for a game-changing defender.

Ohio State already has 11 commitments for the 2027 cycle, but they're far from done. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson—a legendary figure in player development—was spotted at Sierra Canyon High School in California on Wednesday, and the target of his visit was clear: four-star defensive tackle Kasi Currie.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, Currie is the kind of interior force that can anchor a defensive line for years. According to Rivals' Adam Gorney, the buzz coming out of that visit is that Ohio State and Oregon are currently at the top of Currie's list. The Ducks, now a Big Ten rival, are pushing hard, but Coach Johnson's track record is giving the Buckeyes a serious edge.

"Just watching him do the things he did with other people and then going back and watching their film and seeing my film could be better than theirs, going into that situation, that would be great," Currie said of Johnson's influence.

Ranked as the No. 55 overall player and the No. 5 defensive lineman in the 2027 class by 247Sports' Composite, Currie already holds 20 offers from powerhouse programs like Texas, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. But Ohio State has been in the mix since last September, and Currie made a visit to Columbus as recently as early April.

The next big step comes on May 29, when Currie is scheduled for an official visit to Ohio State—the same weekend the Buckeyes will host five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. It's shaping up to be a pivotal recruiting weekend in Columbus.

Ohio State is chasing another top-5 class, and landing a player of Currie's caliber would be a massive win. Keep an eye on this one—the battle for the elite defensive tackle is just heating up.
