Hey, whatever happened to one of the first draft picks of the Mike Macdonald era?

Remember when the Seattle Seahawks went all-in on Auburn cornerbacks during the 2024 NFL Draft? While fifth-round pick Nehemiah Pritchett is still fighting for snaps in his third season, his college teammate D.J. James has taken a different path—one that now leads to the United Football League.

James, selected by Seattle in the sixth round, didn't make the initial 53-man roster or the practice squad. After his release, the rookie spent time with the New England Patriots on their practice squad before signing a reserve/future deal last offseason. He briefly cracked the Patriots' active roster but was waived after logging just seven combined snaps on defense and special teams in Week 1.

Now, the 2024 draft pick is getting a fresh start with the Orlando Storm of the UFL. It's a twist that adds some intrigue: James was actually drafted by the Dallas Renegades in January's UFL draft but didn't make their roster. He's been a free agent until now.

The Storm are sitting pretty at 4-2 and making a playoff push in their inaugural season. For James, this could be the perfect springboard. The UFL has become a proven pipeline back to the NFL, with several players turning strong spring performances into contracts. If he can lock down receivers in Orlando, James might just find his way back to the big leagues.

Whether you're tracking his journey or just love a good football comeback story, D.J. James is one to watch as the UFL season heats up.
