Barcelona's summer transfer ambitions have hit a major roadblock, and the source of the opposition might surprise you. It's not the club's board or the sporting director delivering the bad news—it's the captain of Real Sociedad himself, Aritz Elustondo.

The Catalan giants have set their sights on three key players from the Basque side: goalkeeper Alex Remiro, defender Jon Martín, and winger Mikel Oyarzabal. With Wojciech Szczesny and Marc-Andre ter Stegen both approaching the latter stages of their careers, Remiro is seen as the ideal long-term solution between the posts. Martín, meanwhile, is being considered as an alternative to Alessandro Bastoni in defense, while Oyarzabal could serve as a backup plan if Atletico Madrid blocks a move for Julian Alvarez.

On paper, these would be valuable additions at the Spotify Camp Nou. But in reality, Barcelona has been told in no uncertain terms that a deal is all but impossible. Speaking to Cadena SER, Elustondo made the club's position crystal clear: "Remiro will end up renewing and will retire at Real Sociedad. Jon Martín will be a legend of Real. And with Oyarzabal, there is nothing they can do."

The captain's words carry weight, and it's widely believed he's speaking on behalf of the Real Sociedad hierarchy, who value all three players immensely. Barcelona has already been informed that signing Martín will only be possible if they trigger his release clause—a costly route that will likely apply to Remiro and Oyarzabal as well.

And that's where the problem lies. Even if Barcelona finally returns to La Liga's 1:1 rule this summer, their spending power remains limited. Paying release clauses for multiple players is simply not in the cards. So while Oyarzabal would be a fantastic long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, and Martín and Remiro would strengthen key positions, the financial reality makes these moves highly unlikely.

Still, in the unpredictable world of football transfers, nothing is ever completely off the table. It will be fascinating to see if Barcelona finds a creative way to land even one of these targets. For now, though, the message from San Sebastián is loud and clear: these players are not for sale.
