Real Madrid said Wednesday they have won a legal battle in their dispute with a residents association complaining about "noise pollution" generated by concerts held at their Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The court "clearly and categorically concludes that neither Jose Angel Sanchez... nor Real Madrid Estadio SL bear responsibility for any criminal offence in relation to the concerts held at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium," said Real Madrid in a statement.

Real Madrid have scored a major victory off the pitch, winning a legal battle over noise complaints from concerts held at their iconic Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The club announced Wednesday that a court has cleared both club executive Jose Angel Sanchez and the stadium management company Real Madrid Estadio SL of any criminal responsibility related to "noise pollution" from live events.

The dispute began when a residents' association filed complaints about excessive noise from concerts, including Taylor Swift's massive show at the venue. In January, a Spanish judge had ruled that multiple concerts exceeded legal decibel limits, suggesting the nuisances could be a criminal offense. However, the latest ruling shifts blame to the concert promoters themselves, stating they are "responsible for complying with the decibel limits."

This legal win is a crucial step for Los Blancos, who invested over €1.5 billion ($1.76 billion) in renovating the stadium, which reopened in 2023. The club envisioned the Bernabeu as a multi-purpose entertainment hub, hosting high-profile concerts and events to generate significant revenue. But since September 2024, most shows have been moved to Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano stadium on the city's outskirts.

The court's decision could pave the way for concerts to return to the Bernabeu once sound-proofing improvements are made. While the Madrid courts noted that not all parties have been notified of the ruling yet, this is a promising development for fans who want to see the stadium come alive with music again.
