Real Madrid's season came to a disappointing end as they fell 2-0 to Barcelona in the final El Clásico of the campaign at Spotify Camp Nou. The defeat officially ended their hopes of lifting the La Liga title, capping off a challenging season for Los Blancos.

Thibaut Courtois was solid between the posts and couldn't be faulted for either Barcelona goal. His return from injury has been a welcome boost for Real Madrid, even if the team now has little left to play for this season.

In defense, the team struggled to contain Barcelona's attack. One full-back's corners caused some danger, but defensively he was caught out too often, with Fermin Lopez getting in behind him early on for a chance that nearly opened the scoring. Another defender was drafted in late after Dean Huijsen pulled up in the warm-up, but he had little chance to make an impact.

The midfield battle was where the game was truly lost. Real Madrid's most experienced midfielder couldn't replicate his big-game heroics from earlier this season. Meanwhile, the team's best player by far was operating on the left flank, showing impressive close control and causing Barcelona problems, but without enough support to make the difference. The midfield engine room was completely overrun by Barcelona's Pedri and Gavi, who dominated possession and dictated the tempo.

Up front, the attacking unit struggled to find any rhythm. One forward had the most shots in the match (3) but couldn't gain control in the midfield fight. Another was given a rare start over Thiago Pitarch but failed to impress, becoming the first substitution made by coach Arbeloa. A third attacker tried his best but nothing came off, a story that has become all too familiar since his return from injury.

The replacement for the injured Fede Valverde missed a big chance to make it 2-1 in the first half and did little else of note. Another forward was often left isolated on the left wing, allowing Barcelona to deal with him comfortably. A late substitute touched the ball just three times in 11 minutes on the pitch.

This performance summed up Real Madrid's season: flashes of promise but ultimately falling short when it mattered most against their biggest rivals. As the team looks ahead to next season, the need for reinforcements in key areas is clear.
