Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni has opened up about a difficult chapter this season, reflecting on the intense pressure at the Bernabéu and a painful incident involving teammate Vinícius Jr.

The conversation stems from a tense UEFA Champions League match against Benfica, where an on-field gesture sparked serious allegations. After Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni was seen covering his mouth while speaking, Vinícius Jr. reported being subjected to racial abuse, sending shockwaves through the squad.

Months later, Tchouaméni addressed the episode head-on during an appearance on the Pivot podcast. "They called him a monkey," the French international stated firmly. "I feel that the next step will be to stop playing. We won’t allow scenes like that to happen again." His comments underscore the ongoing fight against racism in football and the solidarity within the Real Madrid dressing room.

Beyond that team controversy, Tchouaméni also offered a raw look at his personal adaptation to the immense pressure of playing for the Spanish giants. He recalled a period where he faced whistles from his own supporters, a brutal welcome for any player. "I was made a scapegoat," he admitted. "In the first 10–20 minutes, the stadium booed every time I touched the ball."

For a young player, such criticism can be crushing, but Tchouaméni explained how he used it as fuel. "That situation either destroys you, or you think ‘that’s just how it is’; let’s see what I can control, and the only thing I can control is my performance," he said. He highlighted the unique environment at Madrid, where every pass and tackle is analyzed: "The level of pressure at Real Madrid is a bit different. People are going to talk about everything you do, whether it’s good or bad."

Ultimately, Tchouaméni credits those tough early moments for forging a stronger mentality. "Everyone was talking about me, about my style of play. A year or two ago I was a bad player," he reflected. By focusing on what he could control, he weathered the storm, a testament to the resilience required to succeed at the very top of the sport.
