Real Madrid's Álvaro Carreras has broken his silence on the altercation with teammate Antonio Rüdiger, confirming the incident in a candid social media statement. The young left-back was named this week as the player at the center of Rüdiger's reported slap during a heated dressing-room argument last month.
The tension reportedly boiled over between Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Alavés and their 1-1 draw with Real Betis. The veteran German defender has since apologized to the squad and even treated them to lunch as a gesture of reconciliation. But for Carreras, the story took another turn when he was spotted appearing to laugh at being substituted in favor of Fran García during Sunday's clash with Espanyol.
In a late-night Instagram story on Tuesday, Carreras addressed the swirling rumors head-on. "In recent days, certain insinuations and comments have surfaced about me that are simply not true," he wrote. "My commitment to this club and to the coaches I've had has been unwavering from day one, and it will continue to be so. Since my return, I have always worked with the utmost professionalism, respect, and dedication. I have fought very hard to fulfill my dream of coming home."
He then turned to the dressing-room drama, seemingly confirming the altercation with Rüdiger but downplaying its severity. "Regarding the incident with a teammate, it was an incident that does not usually occur, without relevance, which has been sorted out. My relationship with the whole team is very good. Hala Madrid!"
Carreras isn't the only Madrid star setting the record straight. Earlier Tuesday, Kylian Mbappé addressed reports of his own heated exchange with a staff member, though the French superstar sidestepped claims that the club's dressing room is unhappy with his recent form. With tensions simmering behind the scenes, all eyes will be on how this tight-knit squad rallies together on the pitch.
