The Tampa Bay Rays (16-11) travel to Progressive Field to face the Cleveland Guardians (15-14) as they open up a three-game series on Monday.

Steven Matz (3-1, 4.81 ERA) takes the mound for the red-hot Rays, who have won four straight after sweeping their weekend series against the Minnesota Twins. After starting the season 3-0, Matz has struggled in his last two starts, especially his most recent, as he lasted just three innings, allowing four earned runs and three home runs in a loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Offensively, the Rays will depend on Yandy Diaz to continue his torrid start, as he’s hitting .337 with a .425 OBP, both leading the team.

The Guardians will counter with Parker Messick (3-0, 1.76 ERA), who has been fantastic early in his career, going 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA over his first 12 career starts. The 25-year-old lefty out of Florida State University hasn’t pitched less than five innings, nor has he allowed more than three earned runs in any start this season. Cleveland isn’t hitting well, at just .231 as a team, and will need Jose Ramirez (.229) and Rhys Hoskins (.212) to set the tone for the rest of the lineup.
