The Rays made an important injury announcement before their game on Friday night against the Red Sox in Boston.

The Tampa Bay Rays have made a critical roster move just before Friday night's showdown with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. After a convincing 8-4 win in the series opener on Thursday, the Rays announced they've reinstated right-handed pitcher Mason Englert from the 15-day injured list, where he was sidelined with right forearm tightness. To make room on the active roster, the team optioned right-hander Chase Solesky to Triple-A Durham.

Englert, 26, struggled in his first nine appearances this season, posting a 7.11 ERA before landing on the IL. However, his 2025 campaign tells a different story. In 29 outings last year, he delivered a solid 3.83 ERA, showcasing the kind of reliability that could bolster Tampa Bay's bullpen down the stretch. If he can rediscover that form, his return might be just what the Rays need to keep their hot streak alive.

And make no mistake, the Rays are on fire. Sitting at 25-12, they're currently second in the American League East, trailing the New York Yankees by just half a game. That same half-game margin separates them from the best record in all of Major League Baseball, where the Yankees, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves are all tied at 26-12. Tampa Bay may not boast the same star power as some other contenders, but their formula of complete team effort and relentless execution continues to defy expectations this season.

On the other side of the diamond, the Boston Red Sox were pegged as potential contenders heading into 2026. Instead, they've stumbled to a 16-22 record, anchoring the AL East cellar. Friday night's game offers the Rays a chance to pile on the pressure and extend their dominance in this four-game series.

First pitch is set for 7:10 PM EST. With Englert back in the fold and the Rays riding high, all eyes will be on Tampa Bay to see if they can keep their incredible run rolling.
