Here's a look inside the team-first mentality that lifted Ravenwood girls lacrosse to the program's first TSSAA state title and fourth overall.

In a performance that will be remembered for years, Ravenwood girls lacrosse has etched its name into Tennessee high school sports history. The Raptors stormed to a dominant 19-4 victory over Bearden on May 15, capturing the TSSAA Class AA state championship on their home field in Brentwood. This win not only secured the program's first TSSAA title but also set a new state record for the largest margin of victory in a championship game—surpassing Harpeth Hall's previous record of 14 set just last year.

For Ravenwood, this title represents a triumphant return to the summit after a three-year wait. While the program already boasted three TGLA state championships, this marks their first since lacrosse became an officially sanctioned TSSAA sport in its second season. The Raptors finished the season with a 16-5 record, capping off a campaign defined by resilience and teamwork.

"It's really just a matter of them wanting to work together. Buying into the fact that we want to be a team," said head coach Bill Dryer, who is no stranger to success. "I've told them, this is my fourth championship, and every team that's won a championship, it's always a team, not individuals." Dryer's philosophy was on full display: six different players scored over 30 goals this season, proving that balance, not a single star, was the key to their success.

The Raptors entered the title game brimming with confidence, having navigated a gauntlet of powerhouse programs. They defeated last season's inaugural TSSAA champion Brentwood and took down Williamson County rival Franklin twice—once in the regular season and again in the state semifinals. "We won't turn away from playing anybody," Dryer added. "The last three weeks we've been saying, it's really not about the opposition, it's about us. Just go out and do the things that you need to do, and all those other things will take care of themselves."

From the opening whistle, Ravenwood left no doubt. They jumped to an 8-0 lead after the first period and carried a commanding 13-2 advantage into halftime. Junior Olivia Sacco led the charge with five goals, while senior Addi Barlow chipped in four. "We all play really well together," Sacco said. "Since we're all close, we all look for each other, and we all know what we're capable of doing, so we know where to feed each other."

With only two seniors graduating, the future looks bright for the Raptors. Dryer and his team are already setting their sights on building a dynasty. "You put a target on your back," he acknowledged, "but it'll be interesting to see how we respond." For now, Ravenwood can celebrate a historic season—and a championship built on a team-first mentality that any athlete can learn from.
