The Baltimore Ravens lost more than a productive linebacker when Teddye Buchanan went down with a torn ACL late last season—they also lost one of the defense's emerging young tone-setters. But if the setback discouraged the second-year defender, you wouldn't know it from his recent comments.
Speaking with fans at M&T Bank Stadium on the first night of the NFL draft, Buchanan offered an encouraging update on his recovery. The rehab process, he says, is progressing exactly as he hoped—if not better.
"The rehab process is going great. It's right on schedule, if not ahead of schedule," Buchanan shared. "I'm feeling healthy, getting back to doing things that I'm used to doing. Just taking it one day at a time, not trying to look too far forward, but I'm definitely feeling good about it."
That's the kind of update Ravens fans were eager to hear. Buchanan quickly became a key piece of Baltimore's defense during his rookie season before the injury cut his campaign short in December. Thrust into meaningful action early, he started 13 games and racked up 93 tackles—trailing only Roquan Smith on the team leaderboard. For a rookie linebacker navigating one of the NFL's most demanding defensive systems, that's no small feat.
What made Buchanan's debut season especially impressive was how quickly he adapted. Young linebackers often struggle with the speed, complexity, and physicality of the pro game. But Buchanan looked comfortable almost from the start, even after being, as he put it, "thrown into the fire."
His confidence grew with each snap. He pointed to a third-down stop against the Buffalo Bills in his NFL debut as the moment he realized he truly belonged. Now, with his rehab ahead of schedule, Buchanan is poised to pick up right where he left off—and that's great news for a Ravens defense that thrives on physical, instinctive play in the middle of the field.
