Ravens have clear message for Diego Pavia at rookie minicamp after Vandy career

Baltimore is the team that has given Pavia a chance.

When the NFL Draft ended and the undrafted free agent frenzy died down, Diego Pavia was still waiting by the phone. The quarterback who turned Vanderbilt into a competitive force—something many thought impossible—found himself without a team. That is, until the Baltimore Ravens stepped up with a rookie minicamp invite that quickly turned into a proper undrafted contract.

Pavia may not have the prototypical size, the cannon arm, or a spotless off-field record, but what he does have is undeniable: the swagger and playmaking ability that breathed life into a dormant college program. The Ravens saw that spark, and new head coach Jesse Minter made it clear what they expect from him now.

"So now he’s in the door, and it’s like, ‘Show us what you can do,’" Minter told reporters on Saturday. "And just like all the undrafted rookies, that’s what I would say."

For Pavia, the opportunity is both a chance and a challenge. He wasn't made available to the media, so Minter's words carry extra weight. "For us, we see it as an opportunity to bring a player in that could potentially be something, and that’s really what this is for us," Minter added.

The Ravens' quarterback room is already stacked with two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and the steady Tyler Huntley. Pavia will battle for the third QB spot or a practice squad role, competing against fellow undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano from UConn. More options could come as the offseason rolls on, but that's out of Pavia's hands. His job is simple: make the most of the chance he's been given.

In a league where second chances are rare and opportunities are earned, Pavia now has his foot in the door. What he does from here is entirely up to him.
