The Toronto Raptors will be without a key piece for their playoff opener. Starting point guard Immanuel Quickley has been ruled out for Game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday due to a mild right hamstring strain.
Quickley suffered the injury in the team's regular-season finale against the Brooklyn Nets, dealing a significant blow to Toronto's backcourt. In his first full season with the Raptors, Quickley emerged as a vital offensive engine, averaging 16.4 points and a career-high 5.9 assists per game.
There is a glimmer of hope for the Raptors' rotation moving forward. Head coach Darko Rajakovic stated that Quickley is making progress in his recovery and has not been ruled out for a potential return in Game 2 on Monday. His availability will be a major storyline to watch as the series develops.
With Quickley sidelined, second-year guard Jamal Shead is expected to step into the starting lineup. Shead, who has shown promise in 12 starts this season, will face the tall task of facilitating the offense against a tough Cleveland defense.
The injury news isn't one-sided, however. The Cavaliers will also be short-handed, having ruled out reserve big man Thomas Bryant for Game 1 due to a left calf strain.
