ARLINGTON - The Rangers are signing utility infielder Diego Castillo, who has 101 games of major league experience to a minor league contract, a person with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed to The Dallas Morning News. Venezuelan-based El Extrabase first reported the deal.
Castillo, 28, had time in the majors in 2022-24 with Pittsburgh, Arizona and Minnesota and produced a .208 batting average and .640 OPS. He spent last year in the New York Mets and Kansas City organizations at Triple-A. He began this year in the Mexican League, playing for former Ranger Fernando Tatis and had gone 19 for 36 (.528) in nine games.
The Rangers had an opening at Triple-A after releasing veteran infielder Tyler Wade recently.
