Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi was scratched from his scheduled start Monday night because of left side tightness. About three hours before the scheduled first pitch of their series opener at home against Arizona, the Rangers said right-handed reliever Jakob Junis would start in Eovaldi's place. Eovaldi (4-4, 4.15 ERA) is coming off consecutive wins against the Yankees in his last two starts, limiting the Yankees to one run and striking out 15 over 15 innings in those games.

The Texas Rangers will have to adjust their rotation as right-hander Nathan Eovaldi was scratched from his scheduled start Monday night due to left side tightness. The team announced the change roughly three hours before first pitch of their series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Globe Life Field, with right-handed reliever Jakob Junis stepping in to make the start.

Eovaldi, who holds a 4-4 record with a 4.15 ERA this season, had been on a hot streak entering this matchup. The 36-year-old two-time All-Star posted back-to-back wins against the New York Yankees in his last two outings, surrendering just one run while striking out 15 batters over 15 innings. His dominance included a one-run performance over eight innings at Yankee Stadium last Wednesday, followed by seven scoreless frames against the same opponent at home on April 29.

This setback adds to a challenging recent history for Eovaldi, who went 11-3 with a career-best 1.73 ERA last season but was limited to just 22 starts. He missed significant time due to elbow inflammation in June and didn't pitch after August 22 because of a rotator cuff strain. The Rangers will hope this latest issue is minor as they rely on their veteran arm to anchor the rotation down the stretch.
