Jonathan Quick's legendary NHL career came to a bittersweet close Monday night, as the New York Rangers fell 3-2 to the Florida Panthers. The 40-year-old goaltender, who announced his retirement earlier in the day, was denied the storybook ending in his 810th career start.

The Panthers struck first, building a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Cole Reinhardt opened the scoring on a rebound, and Mackie Samoskevich followed just over a minute later with a dazzling short-side finish off a partial breakaway. The Rangers, however, showed their resilience. Defenseman Matthew Robertson cut the deficit to one before the first intermission with a powerful long-range shot, and rookie Gabe Perreault tied the game in the second period, setting up a dramatic third.

With the game knotted at 2-2, the decisive moment came with just 1:50 remaining in regulation. Cole Reinhardt netted his second of the night, beating Quick for the game-winner. Despite the loss, Quick's final stat line—14 saves on 17 shots—does little to diminish a historic career. The three-time Stanley Cup champion finishes with 410 wins, the most ever by a U.S.-born goaltender and 12th most in NHL history.

While the Rangers' season concludes Wednesday in Tampa, this night belonged to reflecting on Quick's incredible 18-year journey. From his iconic Cup runs with Los Angeles to this final chapter in New York, he leaves an indelible mark as one of the game's most accomplished and competitive netminders.
