The Texas Rangers entered Saturday night with hopes of building momentum in the American League West, but a rough start proved too much to overcome as they fell to the Detroit Tigers 5-1 at Comerica Park.

Kumar Rocker struggled from the very first inning, surrendering five earned runs on six hits over just two innings of work. The crushing blow came early when Dillon Dingler launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, giving the Tigers all the offense they would need. Rocker, now 1-3 on the season, didn't issue any walks but managed only two strikeouts before being lifted.

The Rangers' bullpen provided a silver lining, as Cal Quantrill, Peyton Gray, and Gavin Collyer combined to shut down the Tigers for the remainder of the game. However, the damage was already done.

Texas's lone bright spot on offense came in the fourth inning, when Jake Burger crushed his sixth home run of the season—a solo shot that briefly gave the Rangers hope. Josh Jung and Josh Smith each collected two hits, but the team managed just seven total hits and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, leaving seven runners stranded on base.

Defensive miscues also haunted the Rangers, as Jung committed two fielding errors that extended innings and frustrated manager Skip Schumaker. The inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities has been a recurring theme for Texas this season.

With the loss, the Rangers fall to 16-17 and below the .500 mark, though they still hold second place in the AL West. The Tigers, now 17-17, sit in second place in the AL Central.

The two teams will wrap up their three-game weekend series on Sunday before the Rangers head to the Bronx for a day off Monday and a three-game set against the New York Yankees. For a team looking to find its stride, there's no time like the present to turn things around.
