In a move highlighting the intense pressure and financial realities of non-league football, Ramsgate have parted ways with manager Lee Martin. The club pointed directly to a significant underspend on player recruitment in the final stretch of the season as a key factor in the decision.
The dismissal comes after a difficult run of form that saw the Kent-based side lose six of their last seven matches, culminating in a defeat in the Velocity Cup final on Wednesday. This poor finish has left Ramsgate 10th in the Isthmian League Premier Division, missing out on the play-offs and a shot at promotion to the National League South.
In a statement, the club framed the decision as a strategic shift, stating the recent results reflected the challenging recruitment period and that moving forward required a new direction. They did, however, thank the former Manchester United academy product for his service, noting he helped stabilize the club after taking over at a difficult time.
Martin, who enjoyed a solid Football League playing career with Ipswich, Millwall, and others, now departs with two games remaining. Assistant coaches Seb Tidey, Tom Hadler, and Mark Buckingham will take temporary charge as Ramsgate looks to rebuild and refocus its ambitions for next season.
