The Los Angeles Rams are heading into the 2026 NFL season with a significant scheduling hurdle that could test their depth and resilience. According to analyst Warren Sharp, the Rams are not only facing one of the toughest slates of opponents in the league, but they also rank among the most disadvantaged teams when it comes to recovery time between games.
Los Angeles is one of seven teams that will play five or more games this season with a "rest disadvantage"—meaning their opponent will have had more time to prepare and recover. Joining the Rams in this tough spot are the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Miami Dolphins. The Los Angeles Chargers lead the league with seven such games.
To make matters worse, the Rams' bye week has been effectively neutralized. The NFL scheduled Los Angeles for the new Thanksgiving Eve game in Week 12 against the Packers, and both teams were given a Week 11 bye to accommodate the Wednesday kickoff. Since both squads enter that matchup fresh off a week off, neither holds a rest advantage—rendering the Rams' only scheduled break nearly meaningless from a competitive standpoint.
There is a silver lining, however. The Rams' Week 2 showdown with the New York Giants on Monday Night Football at SoFi Stadium offers a much-needed recovery window. Coming off their Thursday night season opener in Australia on September 10 (which will actually be Friday morning local time), Los Angeles will enjoy a full 11 days of rest before suiting up again. That extra recovery time will be crucial following a grueling post-game flight from Australia, especially since the game is at home.
The 2026 NFL schedule has been widely criticized as one of the least equitable in recent memory. Sharp notes a staggering 39-day swing in net rest between the most and least fortunate teams—a disparity that could have major implications for playoff races and player health. For the Rams, navigating this imbalance will require smart roster management, strong conditioning, and perhaps a little luck.
